The plea of an opposition Legislator for a third revenue district in the state was rejected by the legislative assembly on Friday.
In the ongoing Goa legislative assembly session, a private resolution moved by Congress MLA Ravi Naik sought to create an additional revenue district in the state was defeated by 23 against 8 votes.
All ruling MLAs as well as Sudin Dhavalikar and Churchill Alemao voted against the resolution.
MLA Ravi Naik while placing the private member resolution has said that the creation of an additional district will help government facilities to reach people’s doorsteps.
He has claimed that the additional district will help people from Ponda and surrounding remote talukas.
However, the government rejected the demand stating feasibility reason. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the House that it was not ‘feasible’ to create a third revenue district for the state.
“As far as policing is concerned, we have created four police districts, but as far as revenue districts are concerned, we don’t require an additional one,” Sawant said.
While opposing the demand, Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate said that there is no need to have any administrative changes at this juncture as considering the voting population, it is not possible to create any additional district.
The revenue minister also added that the government is working towards providing online services.
