The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday in Mann Ki Baat Radio programme praised the efforts of Goan artist Sagar Mule to preserve age-old 'Kaavi' art of painting. Modi urged people to work for preserving such ancient forms of art in the country. The students from Sharada English High School, Sanvordem participated online in the programme along with local MLA and Minister Deepak Prabhu Pauskar."I got to know about the efforts of Goa Sagar Mule. He is trying to preserve the centuries old Kaavi arrt of painting. Kaav means lal mitti (red soil). In ancient times the red soil was used in this art form. During Portuguese rule the people who have fled from Goa have taken this art form to other parts of the country. With time the painting art was getting extinct. Mule has given this art form a new life. His efforts are being immensely praised", said Prime Minister Modi in his speech.
Kaavi art form is mostly found in Goa and coastal parts of Maharashtra,
During the 84th edition of the Mann Ki Baat radio programme Prime Minister urged people to work to save ancient art forms. “His (Sagar Mule) efforts are also getting a lot of appreciation. Friends, a small effort, even a small step, can make a huge contribution in the preservation of our rich arts. If the people of our country are determined, the passion to adorn, beautify and save our ancient arts across the country can take the form of a mass movement", said PM.
Stating that there are many such efforts that are taking place in the country, the PM appealed to people to give such information through Namo Aap.
PM also mentioned about the movement in Arunachal Pradesh to save birds from hunting.
Many people have surrendered air guns to join the movement to stop bird hunting. More than 1,600 airguns have been surrendered so far, said Modi.
He also mentioned about the online course on 'Modern Introduction on Mahabharata' by Bhandarkar Institute Pune stating that the work of preparing syllabus on the course was started 100 years before.
PM also mentioned about a Serbian scholar Momir Nikic who has created a bilingual Sanskrit-Serbian dictionary and has translated 70,000 Sanskrit words. The PM said that Nikic got the inspiration to create this dictionary at the age of 70 from Mahatma Gandhi's writings. PM also spoke about a Mongolian professor who in last 4 decades has translated 40 ancient Indian texts, epics and compositions in Mongolian language.
