Mandrem police have arrested one person and is on the lookout for five others in connection with the assault on former Mandrem sarpanch Mahesh Konadkar on Wednesday.
Mandrem Police Inspector Narayan Chimulkar said the car owner, Pundalik Harijan, was arrested, while the five persons who were accused in the assault on Konadkar are still at large.
PI Chimulkar also stated that a police team is on the lookout for the five accused.
Meanwhile, Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar called on Mahesh Konadkar on Thursday to enquire about his health.
Later speaking to media persons, Arolkar condemned the assault on Konadkar and said he had requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to direct police to arrest the culprits as early as possible.
“I am sure that police will arrest the culprits and I will file a defamation case against those who have tried to involve me in this attack,” said Arolkar.
Five persons had assaulted Konadkar with an iron rod at Askawada-Mandrem on December 4 and had fled from the site.
