The Goa police have assured the representatives of the Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals across Salcete taluka that the men-in-uniform will provide round-the-clock security at Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal venues during the ensuing festivities.
The goldsmiths based in the commercial capital have also been advised to tone up security around their premises to foil any attempts by miscreants during the festive period.
Sub-divisional Police Officer, Margao DySP Santosh Desai along with the in-charges of the police stations of Margao, Cuncolim, Colva and Fatorda had a meeting with the representatives of the 35-40 Sarvajanik Ganesh mandals spread across Salcete at the South Goa district police headquarters on Friday.
After the meeting, DySP Santosh informed that the police have advised the mandals to install CCTV cameras at the venues during the festivities. Besides installation of fire extinguishers at the venues, the representatives were advised to rope in volunteers to coordinate the movement of devotees during the festival period.
DySP Santosh, however, informed that the police would provide round the clock security at all the Ganesh mandals during the festive period and that the police would conduct anti-sabotage checks at all venues before the commencement of the festivities by deploying sniffer dogs.
Meanwhile, at another meeting called by the South Goa district police Chief, SP Abhishek Dhania with the goldsmiths and the city jewelers, the police has stressed on the need to tone up security around the business establishments during the ensuing festivities.
DySP Santosh Desai, however, said the police have also assured the jewelers that the men-in-uniform will also intensify patrolling in the city as a precautionary measure.
