Continuing its crackdown on drugs in Pernem taluka, police arrested a Russian on charges of possessing drugs at Mandrem and raided a cannabis plantation at Arambol in two separate incidents on Wednesday.
According to PI Jivba Dalvi, the first incident pertained to a drug pedlar at Sawantwada in Mandrem.
A police team formed under the supervision of PI Dalvi raided the site and charas and ganja valued at Rs 1.31 lakh was found in his possession.
The accused, Oleg Nazarov (37), a Russian national was arrested under the NDPS Act and he is presently in police custody. Investigations are in progress to determine the source of drugs.
Within 2 hours, police conducted a second raid after being informed that cannabis plants were being cultivated in an open place at Arambol.
A police team searched the open place in the vicinity of the house at Madhlawada-Arambol and located the illegal cultivation of cannabis plant, valued around Rs 1.75 lakh.
Police registered an offence against an unknown accused person for illegally cultivating cannabis plant at Madhalwada-Arambol.
Police are investigating the case to ascertain the owner of the property and have sought details from the Revenue Department.
Further investigations are in progress under the supervision of SDPO Gajanand Prabhudessai and SP (North) Utkrisht Prasoon.
