The Hyderabad police have claimed that Curlies' alleged owner Edwin Nunes used latest technology to his advantage to connect with 2000-odd drug consumers pan-India while Pritesh Borkar has a network of around 600 consumers in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Goa, 170 of whom are in Hyderabad alone.
The alleged drug dealers, Nunes and Borkar were detained on December 9 and December 11 respectively under the Preventive Detention Act. They are currently lodged in Central Prison, Chanchalguda, Hyderabad.
Hyderabad Commissioner C V Anand (IPS) informed the media that in the recent past, Nunes is involved in four cases of drug peddling.
"He has a network of more than 2000 consumers who are located in different parts of the country. He started his career as a waiter, then became a bartender and now running three restaurants/hotels in Goa built with help of easy money earned through drug peddling," the officer said.
The officer reiterated that Nunes attracts youth and visitors to his hotels by playing psychedelic music and supplying drugs. He uses latest technology and IT tools to escape from the dragnet of police.
While Borkar alias Babu alias Khaliis, Anand said, has been habitually peddling “narcotic drugs” in the limits of Hyderabad Police Commissionerate, Goa State and other cities.
Sources said that under the Act, an accused is detained for a minimum of one year. Both the accused were earlier arrested in an inter-state drug pending case by the Hyderabad police and bailed out thereafter.
They were in the neighbouring state to comply with the court conditions when the local police detained them under PDAct.
