MP native dies in Benaulim accident
MARGAO: A 31-year-old native of Indore (Madhya Pradesh) died in a self-accident at Benaulim.
According to Colva police, the accident occurred when the MP native, one Irfan Nazir Khan (31), who was riding a scooter, crashed into an telephone pole at Benaulim.
Meawwhile, in another incident, police fished out the body of one Socorro from River Sal at Benaulim. Socorro was reportedly missing from Monday, March 5. Colva police informed that a missing complaint was lodged to this effect on Monday itself.
His body was found floating in River Sal at Benaulim.
Household goods burgled at Sodiem
MAPUSA: Household goods worth Rs 3 lakh were stolen from a rented room at Gaunsawaddo-Sodiem on Monday evening.
According to Mapusa Police, Rajiv Mulchandani complained that the incident occurred at about 6.30 pm when he along with his daughter had gone out for some work. Taking advantage of the situation, the burglars broke open the lock of the door and decamped with household articles worth Rs 3 lakh.
Police further informed that the burglars while leaving the room locked the door with a new lock. When Rajiv returned home, he saw his door locked with a new lock. The complainant broke the door and found his household material missing from the room.

Woman ends life at Sancoale
CORTALIM: A 21-year-old woman from Upas Nagar, Sancoale, allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Verna Police, the girl who is a native of Andhra Pradesh was going through mental depression, owing to some family problems.
The incident was reported to the police by the sister of the victim, who informed that she had hanged herself to a rafter of the rented room, where they were staying, informed PSI Diogo Gracias.
Flesh trade racket busted at Verna
CORTALIM: Two persons were arrested and two girls rescued after Verna Police busted a prostitution racket at Verna.
According to Verna Police Head Constable Nevil Fernandes, acting on a tip-off, the police raided a house and arrested the accused, Jerry Carvalho of Dando-Verna, who had rented his room, and one Jyothi, who was running the sex trade and rescued two girls.
Later, both the accused were remanded to 3-day police custody by the Margao court.
Police said both the girls were sent to a protective home at Merces. Police is investigating the case.
Two held for illegal iron transportation
PONDA: Ponda police arrested two persons on charges of transporting sponge iron material, without proper documentation, from Hospet-Karnataka to Goa.
Police informed that they intercepted the truck laden with sponge iron material on Sunday and arrested the accused - Rajiv Singh (31) of Tisk-Usgao and truck driver, Hussain Basha Mulla (36) from Karnataka, late Monday evening.
The two are accused of forging documents and cheating the State of taxes and further forging the documents of a company from Marcaim and bringing the consignment on its name. Police has registered the offence under various sections of IPC. Ponda Police is investigating the case.
