33 warehouses, godowns could be spared

A breakup of the figures identified by the State Excise Department has revealed that more than two-thirds of the licences identified and
facing the axe are bars and restaurants.
While there are 2,290 tavernas and bars and restaurants, 789 liquor shops and 99 wholesale shops it is the latter two categories that are almost sure to be closed down come April 1. Besides this, around 33 warehouses and godowns have also been identified but they are likely to be spared as no sale of liquor takes
place there.
“It is sale for consumption off the premises that comes under the purview of the Supreme Court order. What is sold for consumption on the premises will not be counted. I have conveyed this to the chief minister,” State’s Advocate General Saresh Lotlikar told The Goan.
A week later, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi echoed a similar opinion saying that the Supreme Court’s order was only applicable to shops and not to pubs, bars and restaurants where consumption is on premises.
