MARGAO
The men-in-uniform made its huge presence in and around the Margao Civil and Criminal Court building on Saturday, leaving nothing to chance since the organisations waging a sustained battle against the three linear projects had appealed to the people to turn up in large numbers to express solidarity with the persons implicated in the case.
In view of the tight police security, entry into the court building was regulated by the men-in-uniform. Sources said lawyers were requested by the court to come in attire or in the alternative to carry their Bar Council ID proofs, to ensure that they have hassle free entry into the court premises.
In fact, police were posted at the main entrance and the rear side, with the officers questioning people about their purpose in entering the building.
While the protesters, who turned up outside the court building, were seen near the garden square, they directed their ire after an overzealous police officer tried to further push them behind when they were not standing on the road.
Police personnel also made their presence felt outside the court room with Margao PI Sachin Narvekar and his Fatorda counterpart Girendra Naik monitoring the situation.
An Executive Magistrate, Rosario Carvalho was also deputed outside the court premises as a precautionary measure.
