LS polls: Capt Viriato for Cong in South Goa?

Composition of the Pramod Sawant Cabinet indicates the BJP has sounded the bugle for the 2024 South Goa Lok Sabha seat. The Congress seemed equally gearing up for the battle. In fact, Congress circles is abuzz with reports that the party is toying with the idea of fielding the Captain from Dabolim to carry out a surgical strike in down South. Congress circles admitted that the name of Capt Viriatobab Fernandes is doing the rounds as the probable Congress candidate for the South Goa seat. Party insiders say party leadership may also nominate the captain on an important party position in the near future. Wait and watch.

Credit to Parrikar for BJP’s Navelim win?

It was a week when BJP State President Sadanandbab Tanavade sounded confidence of the Lotus blooming across Saxtti one day, after Margao, Fatorda, Cuncolim and Navelim. Sources say credit for the BJP’s win in Cuncolim and now Navelim should go to the architect late Manoharbab Parrikar, for laying the foundation for BJP’s expansion in the minority taluka via the delimitation exercise. In Cuncolim, BJP’s traditional voters from Quepem were included in the constituency, while Saxtti coastal belt was severed from Navelim, giving the BJP a fighting chance in these constituencies. Any questions?

Winds of change: Devp works on in Fatorda

It’s a strange coincidence that at a time when Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai is lying low post-election, development works have got underway in Fatorda. In the run up to the polls, Vijaibab and his supporters were booked for obstructing traffic and men-in-uniform at the Nehru stadium junction after the MLA protested over the PWD’s decision to keep on hold works amounting to Rs 25 crore. The MLA and his supporters were chargesheeted by the Fatorda police just before the polls. Post-results, some of the proposed works have got underway. Are winds of change blowing in Fatorda?

Sardinha blames Curtorim lose on decision-making

Why according to South Goa MP Francisbab Sardinha the Congress could not win in his home constituency Curtorim in the recently held Assembly election? When this query was posed to the MP, he point blank attributed the party’s defeat to the decision to nominate a candidate who had joined the BJP before returning back to the party fold. And, he was candid enough in admitting that Reginaldbab Lourenco would have won the seat on the party banner had he stayed put with the party after the announcement of his candidature. Sounds interesting, isn’t it?

A week gone, but no ghar wapsi yet in Cong

Are there any takers for Leader of Opposition Michaelbab Lobo’s call to all former Congressmen to return back to the party fold? A week after Michaelbab made the offer, one is yet to hear news of any former Congress leader planning ghar vapsi, more so from Saxttidom, where the party suffered a debacle in the recently held polls? Even four-time Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco, who has come under Michaelbab’s scanner, seemed to have politely turned down the offer. You know why?

Congressmen seemed still on an introspection mode over the party debacle, seeking answers over a whole lot of questions. One, how come Girishbab stayed put as the GPCC chief when the seniors called for his replacement a year ago? What had prevented the party from striking a communal balance by having a minority leader heading the GPCC or the post of Opposition leader? Were some leaders afraid that replacement of Girish would bring back Luizinhbab on the GPCC saddle? Who were…
