Congressmen seemed still on an introspection mode over the party debacle, seeking answers over a whole lot of questions. One, how come Girishbab stayed put as the GPCC chief when the seniors called for his replacement a year ago? What had prevented the party from striking a communal balance by having a minority leader heading the GPCC or the post of Opposition leader? Were some leaders afraid that replacement of Girish would bring back Luizinhbab on the GPCC saddle? Who were the leaders responsible for stalling Reginaldbab’s return to the party-fold? Were tickets given to new faces under the guise of inducting new blood to keep challengers to the CM’s post at bay? Many a question indeed remains unanswered.
‘Political maturity’ or something up Vijai’s sleeve?
It’s a sheer coincidence that while MLA Vijaibab Sardesai is under the scanner of Goemkars over his political future, somehow words such as “Sawantwadi” government and “accidental” Chief Minister seemed to have gone missing from the Goa Forward chief’s dictionary. On a “reflective pause” post-election result by his own admission, Vijaibab even says it would be unfair if the new government and new set of Ministers doesn’t get the time to settle down. Wait and watch whether these are signs of political maturity or is there’s something more than meets the eye.
Reginaldo was left with no ‘bargaining’ option
Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco must have taken in his stride BJP’s decision not to induct him in the Pramod Sawant Cabinet. Disappointment, however, is writ large amongst his close aides and supporters. In fact, when a group of senior police officers descended outside the Margao counting centre to escort Reginaldbab to Panaji after his election, supporters were elated their leader may get a Cabinet berth and a prized portfolio. The four-time MLA finds himself in a situation where he is left with little options, with the BJP enjoying support of 25 members. Any questions?
LS polls: Will Sardinha seek re-election?
What’s Congress MP Francisbab Sardinha’s take on seeking re-election for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat in 2024? Well, the four-time MP, who celebrated his birthday on Good Friday, says there’s still time to decide on the question given that the Lok Sabha polls are still two years away. Political observers, however, recalled that in the run up to the last Lok Sabha polls, Sardinhbab had announced that the 2019 Parliamentary election would be his last election in his career spanning around four and half decades. Any takers?
A time when S Goa Cong office had all amenities
It was a week when newly-appointed South Goa district Congress chief Saviobab D’Silva took over the reigns of district office. Saviobab and party leaders must have, however, realised that the district Congress office now lacks the basic air conditioners and other facilities. For, the ACs and tea machine, besides the water filter and CCTV cameras, all installed by outgoing district chief Joebab Dias has been removed and taken away after the party had denied him the Velim ticket. Wait and watch how the party leadership goes about restoring these amenities in the district office.
