Colva police on Sunday has asserted that all security arrangements as usual will be put in place for the traditional Colva Fama on Monday, even as the traffic police insisted that motorists can take the Margao-Colva road via Mungul to go to the Church on Monday.
DySP, Traffic Prabodh Shirwaikar, however, said that though there’s no ban on the movement of traffic on the Margao-Colva
road, he has sought co-operation from the people during the departure of the VVIPs who attended the BRICS summit.
“The road will be open for traffic. It’s only for a short period that traffic may be stopped when the carcades carrying the VVIPs to the airport passes on the road,” Shirwaikar said, while seeking public co-operation for smooth implementation of the traffic arrangement for the Fama.
Meanwhile, Colva police station in-charge, PI Braz Menezes told The Goan that the police will make fool-proof security arrangements for the Colva Fama.
“The Colva police have received additional force and it will be deployed at the Church during the Fama day,” he said, adding that metal detectors would be installed at the Church premises while the bomb disposal squad with sniffer dogs will carry out a search of
the premises.
On the erection of stalls by vendors on the road sides during the Fama, PI Menezes said that the police has not granted any permission for the erection of stalls along the road.
“We had told the Panchayat secretary to get the antecedents of the vendors verified before seeking permission for the stalls,” PI Braz said, while saying
the Colva Church road has been designated as the contingency road in view of the BRICS summit.
Incidentally, vendors have started erecting stalls along the road side on Sunday evening ahead of the Fama, despite the fact that local Sarpanch Menino Fernandes on Sunday categorically
stated that the Panchayat has not issued permission for
the stalls.
