The Goa police on Thursday had a meeting with the representatives of the Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals in the jurisdiction of Margao police station and issued various do’s and don’ts during the ensuing festivities.
The meeting was attended by Sub Divisional Police Officer, Margao, DySP Rajendra Prabhudesai, DySP Traffic Dharmesh Angle, PI Traffic Cell Margao Gautam Salunke and PI Margao Town PS Tulsidas Naik briefed the representatives of the mandals on the precautionary security measures to be taken during upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
The police insisted on the appointment of volunteers at the mandals, installation of CCTV cameras, following Covid norms in and around the mandals.
Margao PI Tulsidas Naik told the media that the representatives have been briefed that no disturbance is caused to the people at the venue and should adhere to the strict timing.
They have been directed to adhere to the safety precautions such as social distancing, mandatory wearing of face masks, scanning and hand wash or sanitiser for preventing Covid disease with respect to the visitors/guests. They should ensure that sanitisers/disinfectant available at the place of venue & wherever feasible they should ensure that no touching of idols, etc be allowed. The representatives were further told to ensure that no physical offerings like prasad/ distribution sprinkling of holy water, etc to be allowed.
They have been told to display the details of the committee and the entrance of the pandal with mobile numbers so as to enable the authorities of public to contact them during emergencies.
“We have impressed upon the representatives to cover the pandal/function under CCTV surveillance cameras inside the venue to cover the whole operational area and to cover the outer periphery during all the days. The organisers have been asked to depute security personnel on all the days of the celebration,” he said, adding that the organisers have been asked to make available the fire extinguishers at the pandal during all the days and obtain NOCs from Electricity Dept and Fire Services with respect to safety of electrical fittings.
As far as waste generated at the mandals during the festivities, the representatives were requested to dispose of the garbage systematically to prevent garbage from piling up on the public road.
