A man from Kolkata, who was arrested on charges of cheating and impersonation, has been remanded to five days custody after he was nabbed by CISF officials for roaming suspiciously around the airport premises and clicking photos of sensitive installations on Thursday evening.

According to reports, the accused, Khurshid Alam aka Shaikh Imran, could not provide satisfactory replies and was allegedly in possession of two different IDs with same photographs but with different names.

CISF officials then handed over the accused to the Dabolim police, who began further investigations.

According to Mormugao DySP Sunita Sawant, when the accused was interrogated and his belongings checked, police found a number of bus tickets between Kolkata and Dhaka (Bangladesh).

“The accused had recently travelled to various cities like Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai, before arriving to Goa,” said DySP Sawant.

“We have registered an offence at Dabolim airport police station on the complaint of Amit Shukla, inspector of Central Industrial Security Force at Dabolim airport.”

DySP Sawant said the CISF had found a person moving in a suspicious manner clicking photographs and when questioned he could not reveal his proper identity.

“During a search, he was found carrying identity in two names with the same photograph (his own photograph), one in the name of Khurshid Alam of Kolkata and another in the name of Sheikh Imran of Kolkata.”

“Preliminary investigations showed that he was using the fake ID card in the name of Sheikh Imran and had booked flight tickets in that same name.”

“Accordingly, the police registered an offence of impersonation under Section 419 and under Section 471 as he was accused of cheating the airlines as well as security agencies. We have sought his remand to find out more details,” said DySP Sawant.

“Preliminary investigations have shown that from June 9, this person travelled by flight from West Bengal to Hyderabad, Hyderabad to Delhi, Delhi to Goa, Goa to Mumbai and then, from Mumbai to Goa by bus and on the same day from Goa to Delhi.”

“In Delhi, he stayed for two days and early Thursday morning he took a flight from Delhi and landed at Goa airport at 7 am. He had been to Vasco, where he refreshed, had breakfast and went back to airport in order to fly back to Mumbai.” In this short span of four days, he travelled across several places. All these travels need to be probed and so, we have invited other security agencies to investigate along with us, Sawant added.
