The State Police Complaints Authority (SPCA) has issued notices to Old Goa Police Inspector Gouresh Malik and Sub-Inspector Sanket Pokhre over allegations related to the handling of a case filed against government officer Kashinath Shetye.
The Authority has also served notices on Superintendents of Police Rahul Gupta (Crime Branch), Harishchandra Madkaikar (North Goa) and Jivba Dalvi (Crime Branch), along with Inspector Tushar Lotlikar, in connection with the matter.
In its notice, the SPCA directed the officers to submit duly attested duplicate copies of all statements, documents and other records related to the case by September 7.
Shetye approached the Authority alleging that the Old Goa police conspired to falsely implicate him in an extortion and assault case after he was allegedly attacked while exposing illegal landfilling in mangrove and salt pan areas at Merces.
He claimed the case against him was planned in advance and alleged that the officers had prior knowledge of the assault. According to Shetye, an FIR against him was registered within minutes of the accused reaching the Old Goa police station.
Shetye also alleged that despite a court order directing the registration of an FIR into the alleged destruction of mangroves through illegal landfilling, the Old Goa police failed to take action.
