MARGAO: South Goa district police Chief Pankaj Kumar Singh has proceeded on eight day leave, with the police department handing over the charge of office to SP Mahesh Gaonkar.
Sources in the know, however, sought to rubbish reports that SP Pankaj went on leave a day after the Goa police decided to transfer the sensational Swapnil Walke case from the Margao police and hand over the same to the Crime branch.
Sources said that SP Pankaj Singh had applied for leave sometime back, but the leave did not materialize on one reason or another. His leave application was kept pending after Margao recorded the murder of city jeweller Swapnil Walke and SP Pankaj has now proceeded on leave on Saturday after the Crime branch took over the investigations.
