Arrest of accused Omsa from Rajasthan has given a new dimension to the gang war incident that had erupted on the Margao-Colva road at Mungul in the wee hours of August 12.

While a Fatorda police team led by PI Nathan Almeida has returned back to Goa from Rajasthan with Omsa, a host of unanswered questions have come to the fore in connection with the gang war. How come Omsa got involved in the gang war primarily fought between local groups spread across the State; how and who has introduced him to the local gangs, the nature of role played by him in the Mungul incident; how come the accused involved in the Mungul case obtained the fire arms et al.

Questions are also being raised whether the accused was frequently visiting the State and whether he is associated with any gangs back home in Rajasthan.

Fatorda police investigating in the matter has alleged that Omsa was seating in one of the cars that was involved in the incident. Sources are trying to find out whether Omsa had come down to Goa a week prior to the incident. If the answer turns out positive, whether was he putting up during his stay in the State.

The police, however, said interrogation is underway to find out the exact role played by the accused from Rajasthan.

When contacted, Fatorda police station in-charge, PI Almeida said the police has obtained a five-day remand for Omsa, adding that interrogation of the accused is underway.

A police officer told The Goan that the police need to find out how come a gangster from Rajasthan is involved in a gang war fought by local groups. “The police need to find out the local contact who was in touch with Omsa and what was his role in the Mungul incident,” he said.
