The men-in-uniform have warned of strict action against violators of curfew under the Disaster Management Act and provisions of IPC Act from Sunday 9 am.

Briefing media on Saturday, Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Kumar Meena said the police force will see that all people follow guidelines laid to curtail the surge of Covid-19.

"People will be deterred from unnecessarily stepping out of their houses and will act tough on persons not wearing masks in public", he said appealing to people to stay indoors unless it is an emergency.

DGP said all Covid prevention guidelines will be implemented and traffic police and district police will do the implementation of the same.

Police will be deployed in full force while the reserve police will also be called in for duty to man the borders, he said.

Stating that 45,753 people were fined last month for not wearing a mask in public, Meena said a total of Rs 92 lakh was collected by way of fines. Action was also taken against 719 people for spitting in public, he added.

DGP also said that doctors will be provided security and police will be deployed at hospitals. "We are in touch with doctors... accordingly if more security is required it will be provided", he added.

He also said Covid-negative certificates will be checked at the borders. “All borders will be fortified and tourists not having Covid-negative certificates will not be allowed to enter except Goans”, he said.
