Assuring prompt action from police against any sort of illegalities in the State, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said Goa Police would soon launch a new universal helpline number, “112”, where people could call up and report any complaints.
“When people see any illegal activity, they should call the police. Nobody should take law into their hands. Police will definitely take action and government will act firmly against any sort of illegalities,” Dr Sawant said.
The CM was responding to The Goan query over Tuesday’s incident in Anjuna where agitated locals “raided” and beat up the staff of a controversial spa and wellness centre and paraded them in public.
Continuing, Dr Sawant said police may have not known about the illegality in Anjuna and nobody may have brought it the attention of the police.
“Everyone has responsibility. Just like government has its responsibility, people too have responsibility. Whenever people come to know about an illegal activity, they should immediately report to the police,” he said.
The chief minister said police would soon launch a new helpline number through which people will be able to call police and lodge a complaint in any type of case.
“The police are going to launch a new helpline number “ 112 “ by August. It is a universal number all over India. One can dial 112 and police will reach the scene within 10-15 minutes,” he said.
A senior police officer informed that under the new regime, the separate number for police (100), fire (101) and ambulance (108) will be discontinued and all emergency services will come under one universal number “ 112.
