Former Union law minister and Congress spokesperson Ramakant Khalap on Wednesday predicted a “political earthquake” in Goa soon, citing discontent in the “ruling clique”.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters, Khalap said there is “total collapse” of the administration and it was time for the Governor to “withdraw her pleasure” in the continuance of the Manohar Parrikar-led government which he said was badly affected by the health of the ministers and also the recent cabinet reshuffle.
“There is discontent in the ruling clique,” Khalap said, citing the bitter resignation of Independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar, as chairman of the Goa Forest Development Corporation.
He said, a “political earthquake” will happen on its own because the camps of both the ministers who have been dropped - Francis D’Souza and Pandurang Madkaikar - have not taken it well.
“We will have to wait and see what they have to say. Prasad Gaonkar has already reacted,” Khalap said, adding that the supporters of the Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo are also peeved.
Meanwhile, the former Union law minister also took pot-shots at Parrikar saying if he valued democratic principles he should demit office.
He urged Parrikar to follow Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s example who handed over charge to his colleague Railways Minister Piyush Goel in the wake of his illness.
Khalap also said, the Goa Governor, BJP leadership and all those who were ensuring that Parrikar continues in office were doing disservice to him and endangering his life.
He said, the governor should sack the coalition government saying the council of ministers has not been meeting due to the chief minister’s health.
