Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said that politics should work for the good of society, focus on youth empowerment and support growth that includes everyone.
He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of Lokotsav-25 organised at Adarsh-Gram, Amone in Poinguinim by Adarsh Yuva Sangh, Shree Balram Education Society and the state departments of Art and Culture, Tribal Welfare and the Tribal Research Institute.
Explaining the government’s vision of Antyodaya, Sarvodaya and Gramodaya, Sawant said the aim was to reach the last person, work for everyone and develop every village. He said the government would continue to provide all possible support for human resource development.
Praising the festival, the Chief Minister said Lokotsav was not limited to any one art form. It was a platform for youth, women, farmers and tribal people to show their talent in art, sports and skills. The exhibition also gave people a chance to sell and buy local products such as farm produce, traditional food and herbal medicines.
Sawant also appreciated the efforts of minister Ramesh Tawadkar in highlighting the life and sacrifice of tribal leader Birsa Munda during the 150th birth anniversary celebrations. He said Munda’s role in the freedom struggle and his work for farmers and the tribal community were being shown to the younger generation.
Speaking about youth, Sawant said a degree alone was no longer enough. Young people must focus on skilling, reskilling and upskilling so that they can become problem solvers and stand on their own feet.
He said Canacona farmers had doubled production over the last five years and had topped the state in horticulture output. He added that farmers were close to becoming self-sufficient in horticulture, but assured full support from departments such as agriculture, tribal welfare and water resources whenever needed.
