A late-night attempted robbery at a residence in Parra on Saturday has sent shockwaves through the village, heightening concerns over law and order following a string of recent criminal incidents.

According to police sources, three to four unidentified men arrived in a car around 10.30 pm and scaled the compound wall of a house before moving towards the rear entrance, apparently with the intent to break in.

At the time, only the family’s daughter was present in the house, while the rest of the family had stepped out to attend a birthday celebration.

The girl noticed the intruders and immediately raised an alarm in an effort to alert neighbours.

Caught off guard by the sudden commotion, the suspects abandoned their attempt and fled the scene, escaping before residents or police could intervene.

Mapusa Police have obtained CCTV footage of the incident and have launched an investigation to identify the suspects and the vehicle used in the crime. Mapusa Police Inspector Navin Desai confirmed that the footage shows three to four individuals jumping over the compound wall and approaching the house.

“There were three to four persons involved. It appears to be a failed attempt at theft. We are investigating the matter and trying to identify the persons involved,” Desai told The Goan.

The incident has triggered anxiety among villagers, particularly as it follows another disturbing episode reported just a night earlier, when burglars allegedly broke into a local temple, stole a donation box, and desecrated an idol.

The proximity of the two incidents has raised fears of an emerging crime pattern in the area.

Residents have expressed concern that repeated criminal acts, if left unchecked, could escalate into a serious law-and-order problem, especially in residential pockets that witness limited police presence at night.

Locals have urged the police to increase night patrolling and take swift action to reassure the community.

Police said further investigation is underway.
