The election to Goa Dairy's board of directors was held on Sunday. Out of 167 chairmen of societies supplying milk to the board, 166 cast their votes. Counting will be held on Monday at 11 am.
Twelve board members will be elected. The election was held at Curti-Ponda Sahakar Bhavan. Election officer Raju Magdum and officials conducted the poll procedure.
It has been learnt that one chairman is hospitalised and was unable to attend the election.
A total of three panels and two independents are in the fray. Rajesh Faldesai and Vithoba Desai have floated a panel together while Madhav Sahakari and Shrikant Naik have one panel each.
The last election was held in 2017. After the registrar dissolved the Goa Dairy board in 2019, the administrator took over the affairs.
A total of 43 persons had submitted their application to contest the board of directors poll. With the applications of five persons rejected, 38 were left in the fray.
"I tried to introduce new and young faces to my panel as we want to take the younger generation with us," said Madhav Sahakari.
Independent candidate Durgesh Shirodkar said he would try to keep watch on the leakages of Goa Dairy.
Rajesh Faldesai said his panel would work to solve the issues of dairy farmers.
"There is a shortage of milk in the market. Farmers are facing problems with cattle feed. The rate of cattle feed should decrease, and milk should get a good rate," said Faldesai.
