MAPUSA

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) which began investigating the land grabbing cases in the State found that around 70 properties have been transferred in the name of prospective buyers in North Goa by using forged documents.

Led by SP Nidhin Valsan (IPS) the SIT late Saturday night arrested a resident of Margao, Vikrant Shetty for allegedly being involved in the illegal land transfer scam.

A Mapusa court on Sunday remanded the accused to five days of police custody.

Soon after its formation, the SIT took up an investigation of two cases involving forging of documents and illegal land transfer in Bardez where the police zeroed in on the accused Shetty.

During the investigation of the accused, the SIT found that documents were forged and at least around 60 to 70 properties have been transferred in the name of prospective buyers in North Goa.

The accused Shetty was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa who remanded him to five days of police custody.

It may be recalled that the State government on Wednesday, last week, had set up the SIT headed by the Superintendent of Police (crime branch) Nidhin Valsan (IPS) to investigate all cases of illegal transfer of land ownership.

The order was issued by the Home Department of the government which said the SIT was being constituted to inquire into the multiple complaints and FIRs that have been registered relating to the illegal transfer of land using forged documents.
