The Congress has said that BJP’s Garib Kalyan Sammelan is a certificate to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant for their "non-performance".
"The governments at the Centre and the State under PM Narendra Modi and Pramod Sawant have pushed the State of Goa into bankruptcy, leading to financial emergency in the state," said Deputy Congress Legislature Party Leader and Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar.
"For last 10 years, the BJP government in Goa is in power. This is the third term of this government. What government has given to the Goans?" asked Amonkar.
While stating that Congress MLAs will effectively raise the issues in the Assembly session starting from July 11, Amonkar said that the government is preventing MLAs from getting information under the RTI.
"Government is denying information under RTI. Even the Goa assembly has come with the circular to restrict number of sub questions to six. The legislators have right to get information," said Amonkar. "Why ache din sammelan is not arranged. This proves that BJP has failed to give ache din for last 10 years to the people of Goa," said Amonkar.
"The name of the said event itself makes it loud and clear that BJP has brought in poverty in place of prosperity," said Amonkar. "The government has completely failed to resolve a single issue concerning the Goans after accidently coming to power without a clear majority."
Amonkar said issues like making a coal hub, double tracking, construction of new Raj Bhavan, failure to release funds to senior citizens, widows, persons with disabilities, seafarers, housewives and other social welfare scheme beneficiaries for almost six months will be raised in the Assembly.
"The total liability of the State has reached almost Rs 27,000 crore, resulting in burden of almost Rs 1.80 lakhs on every Goan," said Amonkar. "We have taken information from all the stakeholders and people.
"Focus of the government is to silence the opposition. It is our right to raise the issues which are dearer to Goans," said Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao. Santacruz MLA Rudolfo Fernandes said that the BJP government has failed to preserve the heritage sites and monuments in the State.
"The Congress party will strongly take up all the issues in the upcoming Assembly Session. We have already tabled various questions seeking information from the government. We will move various resolutions, calling attention motions, Zero Hour mentions and also study on introducing bills to put the administration on track. We have a strategy in place for raising issues in and outside the Assembly. We will also coordinate with other opposition MLAs and all the independent MLAs and seek their support on issues concerning the Goans," the four MLAs said.
