Congress party leaders led by Minority Chairman Nazir Khan accused the BJP of doing nothing about the proposed Chief Officer Bungalow cum commercial complex project in Vasco since the last 12 years, adding that the site had now turned into a garbage dumping site.
"Former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar had laid the foundation for the Chief Officer’s Bungalow project and this was his dream project.
“He clearly said that he would lay the foundation stone only if the project would be taken up and it has been three terms of BJP in Vasco and over 12 years since then, but nothing has happened.”
“The land identified for this project is a prime land in the heart of the city and as per information, funds for the project were also deposited in the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC). We are not sure if the funds have been misused or if the money has gone missing," said Khan.
"As of now, the prime area is become a scrapyard and a garbage dumping site, where we see scrapped vehicles of MMC parked here. We have seen a makeshift shed here and the chief officer and councillor can operate from this shed and monitor garbage collection in the area," said Khan.
Khan also hit out at Ward Councillor Shami Salkar for accusing the Congress of seeking political mileage regarding the old fish market.
"When we demonstrated outside the old fish market, Salkar said we were seeking political mileage and had assured to shift the vendors in the next 5 days. It is now over 15 days since her statement and vendors are still out by the roadside and struggling in the rains.”
“We had given a 45-day ultimatum to the MMC and the BJP. After this deadline lapses, we will forcibly open the gates and shift the vendors inside the market," said Khan.
