Ponda lantern making contest applauded

Emphasising on the need to preserve cultural values, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar on Saturday stated that competitions in the field of art would help achieve this goal.
He was speaking at the function of Akash Kandeel competition organised by Bhartiya Janata Party at Ponda.
BJP State president Vinay Tendulkar, PMC Chairperson Dr Radhika Naik, PMC Vice Chairperson Shantaram Kolvekar, councillors Vishwanath Dalvi, Sunil Desai, Shivanand Sawant, advocate Manohar Adpaikar, Curti panch Priya Chari, Deepa Naik and others were present on the occasion.
The competition was held in two categories - traditional and non-traditional making of Akash Kandeel, and 24 participants participated in the traditional category, while 19 participated in the non-traditiona category.
"Such contests provides an opportunity to exhibit talent and creativity. This really helps to preserve and promote our cultural values,” said Sawaikar.
Tendulkar commended the efforts of his party workers in organising the contest, while PMC Chairperson Dr Radhika Naik and councillor Sunil Desai also spoke on the occasion.
