The Ponda Municipal Council on Thursday relocated the municipal library from Shastri hall building to market complex at Upper Bazar, Ponda.

PMC dy Shantaram Kolvekar, councilors Irvin Soares, Sunil Desai, Chief Officer Navnath Naik and others were present on the occasion. rSpeaking on the occasion, Dr Nayak said the library has about 1,794 members. “This library will be permanently shifted to golden jubilee project once its construction work is completed,” Nayak said. rEarlier, PMC had resolved to demolish the six decades old dilapidated Shastri hall building and shift the library in market complex. The ‘Academic Social Responsibility’ of Goa Engineering College had conducted a study on Shastri rhall building and advised to demolish it, as there was a threat of collapsing. rPMC had planned to demolish it to bring up a commercial project and has even got approval from the municipal administration. The four-floor building will house commercial shops and offices and PMC will get revenue. r“We felt that operating library from the Shastri hall building is risky as it may collapse. So we have relocated it. We have also appealed to shopkeepers from this building to shift,” she said.
