Goa BSNL has been riddled with complaints of poor service and lack of equipment, even as the largest government telecom service provider has been facing tough competition from private players.
One of the major difficulties BSNL was facing was non-availability of service wires coming from the utility pole to the point of connection to the house.
“Most consumers have discovered that their service wires have spoiled. But the biggest problem is that there are no service wires available with the local BSNL office,” said Marie D’Souza, a resident of Aldona.
Recounting her incident, D’Souza complained that she was always having problems with her broadband internet connection.
“The engineer who came to check the issue realized that my modem was working fine and the problem was with the service wire which was manually joined at three different places. I was advised to replace the wire,” she disclosed, adding that once this was done, her broadband connection worked perfectly.
According to D’Souza, a lot of other villagers also needed replacement of such service wires but the department did not have any stock. “The whole of BSNL is very poorly supplied,” she lamented
Many are also unaware that when a BSNL landline is ‘dead’, a complaint to 198 ensures a rental rebate to the consumer and new bookings can be made by contacting 0832-2434444.
Moses Fernandes, a resident of Carona, Aldona informed that he was aware of the facility but in his case despite furnishing a complaint, the department failed to honour its commitment.
Fernandes said the department’s biggest headache was lack of instruments and other equipment. “When I took my landline instrument for repair to the Mapusa BSNL office, the technician said that I would have to keep the instrument for repair but he did not have a spare instrument to provide me for the intervening period,” the Carona resident said.
A local from Assagao, Owen Braganza, said that landlines in the village went dead mostly during the weekends and he suspected foul play by the local linesmen as most people preferred to get in touch with the local linesmen to get their jobs done.
“If people lodge complaints on the official numbers then there is hope for the system to improve drastically,” he said.
Parra senior citizen files complaint against BSNL, gets relief
MAPUSA: A 92-year-old resident of Parra had filed a complaint of deficiency of service against BSNL last year and also got a decision in her favour.
Sara Freitas D’Costa had filed a complaint against the government telecom operator for a phone that was dead for more than a year before the consumer conciliation committee.
When the case came up for hearing, the matter was resolved after the telecom official agreed to connect the phone and also agreed to provide rental rebate for the period the phone was dead.
