Stating that Canacona Police Inspector Tukaram Chawan has been placed under suspension, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said an enquiry against two other police staff would be conducted and WRD officers would also be taken to task, in connection with the porn video filmed at Chapoli Dam in Canacona.
Sawant conveyed this to the people of Canacona during a conversation with Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, when he placed the call on speakerphone, to enable media persons to hear the statements of the chief minister.
Several people had gathered outside the Deputy Collectorate building, while Fernandes and BJP State Vice-President Ramesh Tawadkar were invited to the cabin of Deputy Collector Satish Prabhu for a discussion.
Sometime later, Prabhu, Fernandes and Tawadkar came out along with Quepem DySP Nelson Albuquerque and PI Therron D'Costa and met media persons and people assembled at the site.
Quepem DySP Albuquerque said PI Chawan had been suspended in connection with the shooting of the porn video at Chapoli Dam.
“Police have also brought on record the names of the accused in the FIR filed earlier against unknown persons. The names of Sam Bombay and Poonam Pandey have now been brought on record as accused and they will be summoned, interrogated and investigated,” said DySP Albuquerque.
“The role of the WRD will also be investigated. WRD officers were in Panaji the entire day and an inquiry is also underway how the incident took place.”
“We don't want to disturb the enquiry. However, an investigation and interrogation of the WRD officials will take place as we have questions to ask them about security guards, whether they had prior knowledge of the shooting, whether the incident took place with or without their knowledge. A natural and impartial investigation will be carried out by police,” said DySP Albuquerque, to the satisfaction of agitating 'Jagruth Canconcars' who had assembled to know the government’s stand in the matter.
Deputy Speaker Isidore Fernandes then made a call to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and sought his permission to place his call on speakerphone to enable all present to hear the chief minister’s statements.
The chief minister was heard stating that Canacona PI Tukaram Chawan had been suspended, while other policemen present at the dam would also be suspended and those WRD officers involved in the matter would also be suspended.
Sawant assured that an impartial enquiry would be conducted in the entire matter.
Protestors at the site also demanded an investigation and action against WRD officials and not the mere suspension of security guards.
They alleged that the dam had been recently painted to enable the video shoot and it was not done by security personnel.
