VASCO
Bardez taluka may have been deprived of a BJP minister despite the presence of three BJP MLAs, but the situation has been quite different in Vasco, with the Port Town now having the rare luxury of two BJP ministers.
With his induction as minister on Monday, Mormugao MLA Milind Naik has joined Panchayats Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho as the other BJP minister from Mormugao.
Naik represents 9 wards of Vasco city, while Mauvin represents 5 wards and the remaining 11 wards are under the custody of Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida.
Incidentally, Mormugao taluka had been a major success story for the BJP party, after all four BJP legislators had won the assembly elections held in 2017.
All four Mormugao MLAs had helped BJP form the government with coalition partners.
However, only Mauvin had been elevated as minister due to political compulsions with coalition partners.
Naik was also among the few former BJP ministers who had won the assembly election on the BJP ticket, while a number of former BJP minister had been ousted in other parts of Goa.
The induction of Naik as minister on Monday has elevated Vasco city as the only municipal area with a maximum presence of ministers.
According to some residents of Vasco, the presence of two ministers in the Port Town speaks volumes for the growing strength of BJP in Mormugao taluka.
