PORVORIM
Porvorim Urban Co-operative Credit Society chairman Narayan alias Bhau Mandrekar said the PWD pays the society Re 1 per bill and the Electricity department Rs 1.50 per bill as commission towards accepting bills from the consumers.
"The amount collected then has to be handed over to the offices of PWD and Electricity department. The staff of these departments do not come to collect the payment. The society has to appoint one person especially for accepting the bill payments and to hand over the bill amount to the said departments along with the typed statement," said Mandrekar.
"The amount of commission paid by the PWD and Electricity department does not even cover the salary of the staff appointed for accepting the bill payments. Further, the commission is not being paid to the society every month."
"The society had requested the two departments to release the payment of commission every month, but in vain. The commission amount is received after 2 to 3 months. It is not economical for the society to accept the bill payments. Hence, the society has stopped accepting the bill payments from the people," said Mandrekar.
Mandrekar further said the society is aware that a lot of inconvenience is caused to the residents of Alto-Porvorim, but it is helpless. "If the government agrees to increase commission and release payment of commission every month, then the society can resume accepting the bill payments," said Mandrekar.
