A video that went viral on social media two days ago, showing water gushing from the under-construction elevated corridor in Porvorim onto vehicles passing below, had sparked concern and surprise among motorists and residents.
However, Public Works Department (National Highways) authorities have clarified that the issue is temporary and will be resolved once the corridor's drainage system is fully installed.
A senior PWD engineer explained that the drainage infrastructure on the elevated corridor is still incomplete.
"All drainage spouts on the elevated corridor will be interconnected with drainage pipes. At the two ends of each span, vertical drainage pipes will channel the storm water down into the median," the engineer said.
According to the contractor executing the project, the installation of the drainage pipes will commence once the final segment of the elevated corridor is closed, a process expected to be completed within the next three to four days.
The clarification comes amid public concern generated by the viral video, which showed rainwater cascading from the structure directly onto the service road below, creating inconvenience for motorists and raising questions about the corridor's drainage design.
Officials have assured that once the drainage network is completed, rainwater will be properly channelled through the designated pipes, preventing it from falling onto vehicles travelling beneath the elevated corridor.
