The issue of removing hoardings by the High Court in the jurisdiction of the Penha de Franca panchayat was discussed in the gram sabha held on Sunday.
Rupesh Narvekar, J. Parab, and Saish Kubal mentioned that the hoardings in the Penha de Franca panchayat area were erected in 2000 and have been a constant source of livelihood for many families. The installation of hoardings on buildings has provided income and security to these families, and removing them will disrupt their earnings. Therefore, the panchayat should request the High Court not to remove the hoardings.
Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar mentioned that this matter is subjudice, so they cannot discuss it further. They will ask the local MLA to raise this issue in the forthcoming assembly election and seek relief for the hoarding owners.
Agnel Pereira mentioned that boat cruises operating at Britona jetty have become a nuisance to the villagers. The cruise operators do not have their own parking spaces, and tourists park their vehicles haphazardly on the narrow Britona road, causing problems for the villagers as these vehicles, especially buses, block the road. Therefore, the panchayat should not permit these boat cruises.
Augie D’Mello mentioned that Konkani is widely written in the Roman script in Goa, and this script should get equal status as the Devanagari script. A resolution to this effect was adopted in the gram sabha.
The sarpanch, Swapnil Chodankar, stated that the panchayat has decided to name the road from Azad Bhavan to Training College after freedom fighter Vishwanath Lawande, the road from Bank of Maharashtra to Forest Garden after Laxmidas Borkar, and the road from Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to Art Park after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The issues of illegal constructions at Britona, garbage, the library, and the panchayat ghar were also discussed in the gram sabha.
