Porvorim water protest: Women demand action on plaint of lathi charge against them

PORVORIM
A group of women marched to the Porvorim Police station on Wednesday to seek an update from the North Goa police superintendent on their complaint lodged against the police inspector and constable regarding the lathi charge made by them on the women near PWD office on November 18.

Speaking to newspersons, Marina Moraes said a group of residents of Porvorim had staged a dharna outside the PWD office on November 18 to highlight their grievances about water scarcity in Porvorim.

“It was a peaceful agitation, but the police inspector and police constable unnecessarily pushed the women and hit them with lathis.”

“The aggrieved women, therefore, lodged a police complaint with the North Goa SP the same day and demanded action against the police inspector and the police constable,” said Moraes.

Moraes said when they went to the police station on Wednesday to enquire about their complaint, they were told that SP Utkrist Prasoon was on leave.

“DySP Edwin Colaco had gone to Panaji since he has been given the additional charge of Panaji Police station and Porvorim Police Inspector Ninad Deulkar had gone to court.”

“So there was not a single senior police officer at the police station to attend to us. This is the current sad situation of the administration at the Porvorim Police station. Women of Porvorim will not keep quiet till we get justice,” said Moraes.
