More tourists good, but need for Covid caution

Happy days are here again! Goa is filled with much-needed tourists from other parts of India. We can see scenes of tourists standing in line for boat cruises, strolling, shopping, etc, all without any care. The masks, if at all worn, are seen around the necks like bow-ties or on the forehead for protection from the sun. Although the influx of tourists is good for tourism stakeholders, the lives of locals are at stake. Now the government of Maharashtra is asking people coming from Delhi NCR, Goa, Rajasthan and Gujarat to produce Covid-19 negative certificates. It is like the pot calling the kettle black when people from virus-hit Maharashtra are travelling all over the country and more so into Goa. Several experts, including doctors, thought or still think that there would be herd immunity which could arrest or slow down the movement of the virus. But looking at the crowds in Goa and also in other parts of the world, it appears to be more like a case of herd mentality (or foolhardiness).

Financial assistance to deserving students

One of the laudable schemes of the State Government is to extend financial assistance to deserving students. Over the past two years SC, OBC, ST, EBC students have painstakingly adhered to the completion of rigorous formalities and processes involved to avail this assistance.
