Seeking to foster unity in the parish after a keenly fought assembly elections on Saturday, the parish priest of the Holy Family Church at Alto-Porvorim has appealed to his parishioners and Goans in general to rise above their political differences and to value the Goan spirit of brotherhood.
In a WhatsApp message to his parishioners, Fr Tomas Lobo chose to emphasise the need for unity after being aware that emotions and feelings among parishioners would have run high, given their support to rival candidates and parties in the polls.
“Dear friends, elections to the Goa Assembly have ended. Those who supported your candidate will be your friend, while there may be those who supported or expressed preference for some political party or candidate not of your liking or choice.”
“Elections once every five years often involves our emotions that will soon die down, but friends lost over our emotions are lost forever.”
“Hence, let us agree to disagree on any point political or otherwise, but with a big heart let us prove to the world the true essence of our Goykarponn: Mog (love), Moipas (friendliness/affection)), Monvallai (sweetness). Viva Goy! Viva Goykarponn,” stated his message.
Fr Lobo's message, which was widely circulated among parishioners in Porvorim and elsewhere in the State, has been largely appreciated by the Catholic community.
