Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said, any private initiative to set up a ‘Sports University’ in Goa after the upcoming thirty-seventh edition of the National Games is hosted here will be encouraged by his government.
Sawant, who visited the Manohar Parrikar stadium (formerly Indoor Stadium Campal) and the adjoining swimming complex which are being decked up for the upcoming Games, said that degree and diploma courses for support staff and other disciplines in sports are sought after and a sports university can offer these courses.
The chief minister also claimed that some private institutions have already approached the government in this regard.
Meanwhile, Sawant will on Friday morning inspect the facilities at the Peddem sports complex in Mapusa which is another venue to host competition in multiple disciplines for the National Games.
Also, the organising committee of the National Games on Thursday launched a campaign in schools and campuses across Goa to popularise and ignite the spirit of the National Games.
