Expressing concern over potholed roads in Chimbel, the locals have shot off a petition to PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar seeking his intervention in the matter so that measures are taken to repair the roads before any untoward incident takes place.

In the petition, the locals have highlighted six major sites where potholes have developed and which are endangering the road users.

The danger-prone sites are near the Material Recovery Facility at Indira Nagar, near Sateri Arc-Gawant, near Goulebhat market, near Livra Febres chapel, near Old Age Home-Goulebhat and near the traffic island at Chinchwada.

The petition further highlights that besides giving a bumpy ride to commuters, the potholed roads risk the lives of two-wheeler riders in case they lose balance when trying to avoid the potholes.

“The situation is worse during heavy rains as it is difficult for commuters to see the roads and identify dangerous parts to avoid as most potholes are filled with water,” the petition states.

The locals have opined that if the bad condition of roads is not resolved and authorities continue to ignore the issue, it would amount to endangering human lives.

They have sought immediate intervention of the PWD minister to resolve the issue.

A copy of the petition has also been addressed to the St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes, PWD chief engineer, Chimbel sarpanch and the road and traffic safety committee of the Chimbel panchayat.
