Power breakdown in Margao

the goan I network

MARGAO

South Goa witnessed season’s first rains accompanied by strong winds on Tuesday and the first major power breakdown during monsoon, plunging most parts of Salcete and other areas into darkness.

The major power outage hit most parts of the taluka, including the commercial capital Margao, shortly around 9.30 pm and the power supply could not be restored till late in the night. Power officials said the breakdown was due to no incoming supply from the Xeldem power station.

A senior power official informed that non-functioning breakers of the main power transformer were the main cause behind the power breakdown.

Since the staff at the Xeldem sub-station could not rectify the major fault, a MRT team from Margao was dispatched to Xeldem in a bid to identify and fix the problem and resume the power supply.
