Power cut to six Agonda structures
CANACONA
The Canacona electricity department on Monday disconnected six temporary connections at Agonda coast, following a complaint of property dispute.
Sources at the electricity office Canacona informed that six temporary connections were disconnected following a complaint of property dispute. All the six connections temporarily given to seasonal structures at Agonda beach, including a top resort, are also reportedly violating CRZ violation and NGT guidelines.
Meanwhile, the Canacona electricity office has served about 187 show cause notices to seasonal structures on Canacona coast after instructions were received from GCZMA.
It may be recalled that though no licences are issued by the local bodies, the electricity department has been accused of giving power connections. “Power connections are given with an undertaking that permit licences from local bodies would be submitted within 15 days, whereas that period is over,” said a source in the electricity office.
After receiving a letter from GCZMA dated September 12, 2016, issued under Section 5 of environment (Protection) Act 1986, notices dated December 27, 2016, were served to 187 temporary connections including Poinguinim (2), Agonda (78), municipal areas (107) to show cause within seven days why electricity connections should not be disconnected.
