PERNEM
In an unusual incident, the Pernem deputy collector and Sub Divisional Magistrate has issued a show cause notice to the electricity department in connection with alleged hill cutting activity to construct a structure at Junus Wada in Mandrem.
While the chief electrical engineer has been named as the respondent, the Pernem mamlatdar has been named as the complainant in the show cause notice.
In his show cause notice, Pernem Dy Collector and SDM Shivprasad Naik stated that the Pernem Mamlatdar had brought to the notice that the electricity department “has carried out illegal hill cutting of 2495 sq. mtrs and mud-filling of 1906 sq mtrs for the construction of a government structure (475 sq mtrs) and a compound wall (270 sq mtrs) in a property at Mandrem.”
Naik stated that this activity was done "without obtaining required permission from the competent authority, thereby materially destroying the nature of the land for which it has been assessed and further unauthorisedly converting it for non-agriculture purpose."
The deputy collector stated that the unauthorised act of conversion of use of agriculture land for non-agricultural purpose amounted to contravention of the rules.
Naik has directed the chief electrical engineer or any person acting on his behalf “to stop such unauthorised use and restore the land in question to its original use or show-cause as to why action shall not be initiated for such unauthorised use by appearing before this authority on September 5 at 10.30 am, failing which proceedings will be heard and determined ex-parte."
