Right back Leewan Castana has signed with the Mohun Bagan Development side in Kolkata for the upcoming season, marking an exciting new chapter in his career. Born and raised in Curtorim village, the student of St Rita’s High School (Curtorim) has played for the club in various age groups since he was 11.

He helped the U-14 team finish second in the 2015/16 GFA U-14 league and was later promoted to the U-16 setup in 2017/18. He also helped the U-15 team qualify for the second round of last season’s U-15 I-League.

The village of Curtorim in Salcete has produced notable players in Goan football, including Armando Colaco, Antonio Rebello, Cyril Rodrigues, Roberto Fernandes, Jessel Carneiro, and Maria Rebello, who have all excelled in the sport. However, Castana remains a unique player among his illustrious villagers.

The Curtorim-born defender plays with fierce determination and instills fear in his opponents with his hard and robust tackling. “My attitude is to win at any cost,” said Castana.

He then joined the FC Goa Development side, where his defensive prowess helped the Gaur clinch the Pro League title. He made an immediate impact in the I-League, debuting for Indian Arrows. He also showcased his skills in the I-League and represented India Under-16 twice. The centre-back’s stellar performances caught the attention of FC Goa after eight years in various age groups leading to his call-up. His consistent performances, leadership, and versatility make him an invaluable addition to the Mohun Bagan Development side. “My journey reflects my dedication and resilience, and I believe I will continue to grow and contribute significantly to success in the upcoming season,” he said.

Castana marks a significant milestone as he donned the colours for Goa in the Santosh Trophy for the National Football Championship.

“I feel very proud to join Mohun Bagan, but I am even happier. My aim is to play in the Indian Super League and for India as much as possible. I feel this is just the start, and my aim is what I am focused on,” Leewan Castana signed off.
