The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Goa arrested two Kerala natives and seized a consignment of charas worth Rs 9 lakh, in a major crackdown on the smuggling of drugs from Himachal to Goa.
According to NCB Additional Director Amit Ghawate, the operation commenced in the early hours of Monday, when NCB teams, in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), intercepted a carrier identified as T. KT, a Kerala native, at Tivim railway station. The man was caught red-handed in possession of 883.64 grams of charas, estimated at Rs 9 lakh.
During the initial interrogation, it was revealed that the accused was working for a drug trafficking network operated by a group of Keralites in North Goa. This network reportedly procures charas regularly from the Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh, Ghawate said.
NCB officials thereafter swiftly arrested the main handler identified as I. B., also a Kerala native, residing in Querim, on the very same day. “Efforts are being made to identify and apprehend other active members of this drug network and to bust the entire charas supply chain,” the senior officer said.
