FC Goa kicked off the 2024-25 season with a vibrant ‘Gaur Fest’ at the SAG Stadium in Bambolim, bringing together players, staff, and passionate fans to celebrate the club’s journey and prepare for the challenges ahead.
The evening began with an inspiring speech from FC Goa’s CEO, Ravi Puskur, who highlighted the club’s progress over the past decade and urged fans to continue their unwavering support. “In ten years, we’ve had many highs and some lows. This season will be long and challenging, but I’m confident we’ll have our share of highs. Last season, the atmosphere was electric, and we hope for that again,” he said, drawing enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.
Head Coach Manolo Marquez followed, reflecting on the previous season’s ups and downs. “Last season was okay, but there were moments we could have done more. This season, we will try again,” he assured, concluding with the club’s war-cry: “The only promise I can make is that these players will give everything in every action, in every game. Uzzo!” His words resonated with the fans, who listened intently.
The event also honoured the official fan clubs, FC Goa Fan Club and East Lower Army, recognizing their steadfast support. A heartfelt ceremony highlighted the strong community that FC Goa has built over the years.
Excitement peaked with the unveiling of the new home jersey for the 2024-25 season, which was met with thunderous applause. This was followed by the squad announcement, with fans cheering for each player. The loudest cheers were for Spanish midfielder Iker Guarrotxena, whose best friend, Ashwin Toppo, stood in for him, underscoring the club’s commitment to fostering close relationships.
The evening concluded with a friendly match between FC Goa and I-League side Sreenidi Deccan FC, where the Gaurs secured a 2-0 victory with goals from Armando Sadiku and Muhammed Nemil. After the match, players and staff interacted with fans, signing jerseys and taking selfies, perfectly capping off an evening that celebrated the essence of being part of the FC Goa family.
