HC stays allotment, auction of spaces in Vasco food court

PANAJI

The Bombay High Court at Goa has stayed the auctioning and allocation of the area developed by the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) for a street food court in Vasco.

The Court has granted two weeks for the government, municipality, GSUDA and other respondents to file their reply to a petition from locals, who argue that the street food court adjacent to Children’s Park should not be permitted.

Advocate General Devidas Pangam, representing the government, stated that the construction of the food park, as part of a Central government scheme, has been completed by GSUDA.

The locals had earlier contended that the site previously hosted various events and served as a playground for children. The petitioners argued that the introduction of a food court would deprive these children of recreational space, lead to garbage menace and possibly invite antisocial activities at night.

With the construction now complete, the High Court has stayed the auction of the area to stall operators until the next hearing.
