Mandrem police have registered offences against six persons on charges of abusing and assaulting a woman at the Shri Devi Bhumika Temple in Ashwem-Mandrem on Monday.
In her complaint, the victim stated that the incident took place in the temple at about 8 pm, when six persons allegedly abused her and later assaulted her, causing her injuries.
During the scuffle, the six persons were accused of touching the complainant inappropriately, thereby outraging her modesty and also allegedly threatened her with dire consequences.
Acting on her complaint, Pernem police registered offences against Pravin Sawant, Rajesh Sawant, Jairam Sawant, the wife of Rajesh Sawant, Ladoo Sawant and his wife, all residents of Ashwem-Mandrem, under Sections 352, 115(2), 75, 351 (3) r/w 3(5) of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita 2023. Further investigation is in progress.
