In an interesting development, the Electricity department has started issuing disconnection notices to power consumers over the failure to shift the meters to a visible height/proper place/outside the premises.

What, however, has agitated the power consumers the most was that the department has started issuing the disconnection notices in August itself when the Power department had set November 28, 2025 deadline for the shifting of the meters.

Social activist Ronny Dias on Tuesday pointed out that he has received a notice from the Power department to shift the meter outside his premises within a period of 15 days from the date of the issue of notice, failing which the department has threatened to disconnect power supply without any further notice.

“I had  receive the notice on August 8, 2025 with a 15 days deadline to shift the meter outside the house. But, I have read a public notice issued by the Power department which had set November 28, 2025 as the deadline for shifting of meters outside the houses”, he said.

Dias said he fails to understand how come the power department issue him a notice when the department’s public notice had set November 28 as the last date for shifting the meters.

He has requested senior power officials to look into the matter and order an inquiry.

“There may be so many houses where the owners are staying in other places such as Mumbai or abroad. When the department has in its notice had given the last date on November 28 for shifting of the meters, the local engineers have no right to issue show cause notices before the deadline”, he added.
