Power minister assures policy to boost EV mobility in State

Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has assured that a policy and the required scheme would be implemented soon to boost electric vehicle transport in the State.

Addressing a webinar organised to deliberate on views and suggestions to the Goa Electric Motor Vehicle Policy 2021, Cabral said the government plans to give incentives to private charging stations and will also set up government charging stations across the State.

"We have already set up five charging stations and we intend to set up another 50 in the State by December,” said Cabral.

The minister suggested there could be a separate tariff with a uniform rate of Rs 3.5 per unit of electricity for the charging stations.

Secretary (New and Renewable Energy) Kunal was also present at the webinar which discussed various issues to reduce the cost of electric vehicles, problems on charging of vehicles, frequency of charging stations, tariffs for electric charging stations, need for incentives to manufacturers and sellers of electrical vehicles, an exemption on road and other taxes.

The need to promote MSME to producing electric vehicles and issues pertaining to purchase, repair and maintenance of electric vehicles were also deliberated at the webinar.

Different stakeholders, including industries, thinkers, vehicle owners and EV company representatives participated in the webinar.
