Senior Power official Kashinath Shetye on Friday served a contempt notice on Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar over the civic body’s failure to remove gaddas from the public footpath near the Electricity Store at the Aquem Power House.
Shetye personally visited the municipal building to serve the notice on the Chief Officer. This is the second contempt petition Shetye has filed against the MMC Chief Officer over the civic body’s failure to remove the gaddas from the Aquem Power House premises.
Shetye told the media that he had never asked the MMC authorities to demolish the gaddas, saying the civic body could instead shift the structures to another location. He said the South Goa District Collector had already directed the MMC to remove the gaddas, but the order has not been implemented to date.
Shetye has filed the contempt petition in the High Court, alleging that the MMC has violated the HC’s suo motu proceedings concerning the removal of encroachments from public places.
